If you are a breeder, you already have lots of bulls and heifers to name. But for all of you folks who don’t, this is your moment!
Here’s how it works:
1. Think of a name (as many as you want). Post them here as comments (read how here), or on Facebook, or by emailing them to me at 2010rank@gmail.com. The best way to do it is as comments here. You can post them anonymously if you want to, but sign your entry with some name that will identify your entry and allow me to keep track of it. Names posted on Facebook or by email will be put up on here on Rank as well, since this is a website thing, not a Facebook thing.
2. There are three categories: the general category, the coffee-themed category, and a special category for names containing the word “Dolly.”
3. Depending on how many entries we get, I may have to weed the numbers down before putting the names up for a vote here. One of the ways I might do this is to eliminate names that already exist in the probullstats database. I may also have a panel of breeders help me winnow the list down to a group of finalists. I reserve the right to change the rules midstream!
4. Next week I'll put up a poll of ten or twenty finalists and you can vote for your favorite names. The winner of the coffee-themed and “Dolly” categories will be picked by a breeder who is looking for names for their current calf crop.
The winner does not get a bull! The winner gets to be proud of their imaginary bull and its cool name. And if a breeder comes around here (and they sometimes do) and likes one of your names (and they might), who knows, you might end up actually naming a bull! (We’ll try to get you a photo.)
I don't know about you, but it seems to me that one of the best things about owning a bull would be naming him. So go ahead: name your bull!
