Bulls & Bloodlines: Portland

There were a few truly excellent bull performances in Portland and lots of really good ones.

High-scored bulls:

W1 Buckey (Wentz) - 46.25

Asteroid (Circle T) - 45.75
Cowboy Cassanova (Pate) - 45.25
Priceless (Page/L&E) - 45
Smackdown (Dakota Rodeo/Berger/Struve/Rosen) - 45

A few videos:

Charlie Bullware. He looks really fresh this year.  Here he is with Luke Snyder.

Asteroid. A little overscored last week, a little underscored this week?

Buckey. Big dust bowl of an out.

King of Hearts. He's a big, old-fashioned, Northwestern bull of Mike Corey's.  He was the bull Robson Palermo rode in the Finals for a 93.25.

Pedigree Notes:

-8 Bring It is a Broke Back V grandson on the sire side.  (Dakota Rodeo/Berger/Struve)

415 Cool Spot is a Harley son out of a Broke Back V daughter. (K Bar C/Strickland/Folds)

615 Cowboy Cassanova is out of a Too Legit daughter.  (Pate)

13T Little Snake is a Mudslinger son (Page 01/Broke Back V daughter) out of a Hotel California daughter. (Page)

Interesting:

The Ref (Corey and Lange)

For most of that ride you couldn't figure out exactly what the bull was doing, but you couldn't take your eyes off him either. It was good to hear J.W. Hart praise a bull like that. Kick-spinners get all the credit, but you get something really unusual like this and it's usually unappreciated. J.W.'s comment was, "Not the high scoring bull to get on, but this is one of the more difficult ones in there." The judges agreed on the not high-scoring part, giving him a 40.75 and L.J. got an 83 on him. I'm thinking that ride was a hair away from a re-ride option, but I was glad it didn't happen.  It was not pretty, but it was interesting, and not all bulls are.  I don't have the video.

Bull of the weekend:

Truthfully, I think Asteroid had it on the intensity factor, but Buckey was so strong and had the higher score and was unexpected.  You decide.
