For those of you who want to know that Justin McKee's doing well, someone sent me the following news release. Here is part of it. They had over 200 in attendance on their first service.
New Cowboy Church to Open in Lenapah
McKee had attended several Cowboy Churches all over the US and when at home had attended Cowboy Junction in Vinita. McKee said, “I had always wanted someone else to start a Cowboy Church here at Lenapah where I live so me and my family could attend.” “But the last few weeks I started to realize that the person to start the Cowboy Church was me.”
“God has a definite plan for this area and danged if he didn’t put me right in the middle of it,” said Justin. “I had talked to two Pastors about the need for a Cowboy Church in Lenapah over a year ago and the day I got back from the PBR Finals in Las Vegas, they both showed up at my house and told me God had told them the time to start was now. “McKee said.
One of those Pastors was Dean Bridges who showed up in the morning and the other was Todd Brock who showed up that afternoon. Neither knew the other had received the same revelation.
November 2010 just three days after the two Pastors showed up on the McKee’s doorstep, Justin along with his wife Jeannie and daughter Kassidy, went to the first Cowboy Capital Jamboree fundraiser in the newly remodeled rock gym. “Jeannie and I looked at each other and we both were thinking the same thing. Wouldn’t this be the perfect place for a Cowboy Church.
The process of starting a Cowboy Church just started to happen. Within a week a group of 12 families started meeting and planning for the first official service. “Before we knew it we had teachers, preachers, children's church and youth leaders all ready to start working here in Lenapah.” McKee said. The group will be called Cowboy Capital Fellowship and will meet every Monday night at 7pm starting January 3rd in the Old Rock Gym. The Lenapah historical society is letting the group use the Old Rock Gym in trade for continuing to restore the remaining rooms that are in bad shape.
Over the last decade Cowboy churches have been rapidly popping up all over the western landscape. It would seem only natural then that a Cowboy landmark like Lenapah Oklahoma would be a perfect home for a Cowboy Church, after all Lenapah has been the “Cowboy Capital of the World” for over 50 years.
One of the main attractive points seem to be a “come as you are” welcome theme that’s appealing to many rural folks that don’t feel like they fit in to a formal church setting. So, y'all Come!
