781 Asteroid has captured everyone's attention since his second PBR event two weeks ago in Pueblo. He is a four year old bull (3/07) owned by Circle T Ranch and Rodeo. Mark and Cooper Kanngiesser are the breeders. (Cooper Kanngiesser is also a CBR and PRCA bull rider.)
Asteroid has one CBR out, nine PRCA outs, and five PBR outs (as of 8/15). He was unridden in the CBR and PRCA. Circle T bought him from Robbie Herrington after the PRCA event in Huntsville this March. He has been ridden once in his five PBR appearances.
Spencer White, the livestock manager at Circle T, says Asteroid is "still young and pretty fractious." In Des Moines, in his first PBR out, he had some trouble in the chute and had a hard time getting out of the gate clean. Elton Cide rode him for 76 points and the bull score was 39.50.
Then he came back in Pueblo and blew everyone away and has been blowing them away ever since. In Tulsa and San Antonio he was the high-scoring bull, over Bushwacker and I'm a Gangster, with a score of 46.50.
Like I always say, we know who the big stars are and they are fun to watch. But the new ones who surprise us are even more exciting. Asteroid came out of the blue and now could become a contender for Bull of the Year.
